I’ll be honest, when I first thought about switching to a safer option I was afraid I’d miss having those seasonal scents and questioned if I could really give up my favorite soap. Then I thought about how many times we wash our hands a day (I have 3 little kids) and how many times we were using soap that was full of toxic ingredients. That’s when I knew it was time to find a new soap.
I started making my own foaming hand soap with essential oils, Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap and water. Just 3 ingredients! It’s so easy my kids can make it. I am happy to report that by making my own soap I actually save money! I assumed that switching to a natural soap would cost more, but I was wrong! I can make thieves foaming soap for around $1.87 a bottle. This soap smells amazing and is free of questionable ingredients. You can make it even cheaper depending on the essential oil you choose. Lemongrass is one of my favorite oils to add and it’s cheap! Once you purchase a Foaming Soap Dispenser you’ll be able to reuse it and save money.
Some of my favorite oils to use are Lemongrass, Thieves, Lavender, Eucalyptus and Christmas Spirit. If you’re using a plastic soap dispenser remember to avoid using citrus oils. They’re so potent that they can actually pull the toxins out of the plastic. Yuck!
I’ve been using this recipe for three years and haven’t gone back!
